It Was One Shooting Star… Then Two Hundred

It was a cold December night in Kasar Devi. The kind of night where the air is sharp, the silence thick, and everything feels a little more alive than usual.
I was staying in a mud house on the hillside, and my friend and I had stepped out around 8 p.m., just to sit under the open sky before bed. We weren’t expecting much, maybe a quiet conversation, maybe a little stargazing.
We spotted one shooting star.
Then another.
And then another.
In a matter of minutes, the sky cracked open.
I’m not exaggerating..we saw over 200 shooting stars in less than fifteen minutes. Some small and fast, others long and glowing, with soft golden tails. I remember we just kept gasping. Laughing. Whispering, “Is this really happening?”
It felt like the universe was on fire, but in the most gentle, spectacular way.
Later, we found out it was a meteor shower. One of those rare celestial events that you only read about. We hadn’t planned for it. We were just lucky enough to look up at the right time.
That night reminded me that some of life’s most magical moments don’t arrive with an announcement.
They come quietly.
Softly.
On cold December nights, when you’re not expecting anything at all.
